DUMP RANCH: The ultimate game changer of homemade dressings (Whole 30 approved)

Y'all, I'm about to change your lives. Let me introduce you to a THE game changer in the world of sauces & dressings... DUMP RANCH.

 A few weeks ago I stumbled across a blog post by 'Whole Sisters' raving about their Whole 30 compliant homemade dressing dubbed "Dump Ranch". The name was initially off-putting but I was definitely intrigued enough to read on... Honesty corner time: I attempted to complete the Whole 30 program and did okay for about 8 days before unabashedly caving, calling it quits and never going back for seconds. I remember the biggest issue I had was the lack of sauces and dressings; never feeling like I got enough flavor with my food. I also do not have success with highly strict diets where I feel limited with my food options (i.e. every diet ever). If you're unfamiliar with the Whole 30 program it cuts out sugar, grains, legumes & dairy for 30 days to allow your body to heal from the inflammation that many of those foods can cause.

I've recently contemplated giving it another go as I hear nothing but positive remarks from successful Whole 30-ers, and now that I've discovered THE HIDDEN GEM that is dump ranch, I honestly think I could to be a success story! It has a ridiculous cult-like following in the Whole 30 community and for good reason- I could drink this stuff. My husband, bred in the South, likes to put ranch on everything. No really, you name it, he thinks ranch belongs on it; we go to a restaurant or order to-go food and you if they don't bring his extra ranch he takes it real personal. So, when I explained to him I made "healthy ranch!", he did his usual eye-roll he does whenever I try to turn on of his favorite foods into a "healthier" version of itself. Yep, he rolled those eyes all the way to the dinner table- where I had smothered his salad in my dump ranch... long story short, the entire batch was wiped clean in a matter of 4 days. (Between TWO of us!)

After two weeks of using the OG version of dump ranch, I decided it was time to get creative. I also researched a bit about people who didn't eat eggs or whom were allergic to eggs that substituted cashews which I really wanted to try! Below I will walk you through making the four types of dump ranch (including the original version) that I found to be the best combinations... The possibilities are endless with this one, y'all- get creative!

Original Dump Ranch: (from Whole Sisters website)

  • 1 Egg

  • 1 C *Light* Extra Virgin Olive Oil (important to be light version)

  • 1 Tbs Lemon Juice

  • 2 Tbs Red Wine Vinegar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp pepper

  • 3/4 tsp onion powder

  • 3/4 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 C full fat coconut milk (stirred is fine but if you want a thicker dressing- use the solidified portion- and YES, full fat is KEY unless you want very thin dressing)

  • 1 handful fresh parsley or 3 Tbs dried parsley

They suggest using an immersion handheld blender which is absolutely easier, because you legit "dump" all ingredients in a container or mason jar and blend all at once. I did try it in my food processor though, and it works but it a lot more clean-up! I got an Oster Immersion Blender at Target that came with a small food processor for $29! Start with the immersion blender head in the bottom of your container and don't bring upwards until it begins to thicken up.

Combine all ingredients & blend, but leave the herbs for the last 15-20 seconds or it could turn your whole batch green :) Store in the fridge for one week, unless you're in my household where one batch only lasts 4 days! If you want an even thicker dressing or feel like it did not emulsify properly (oil & vinegar combining) just add another egg and this should help, or as I mentioned above, don't shake your can of coconut milk to combine and use only the solidified portion.

Now, onto my own experimental dump ranch creations, including my NEW FAVORITE combination!

Avocado-Cilantro Dump Ranch:


  • Add 1 whole avocado

  • Add a heaping handful of fresh cilantro or 1 Tbs dried

Combine all ingredients the same!

Chive-Dill Dump Ranch:


  • Add 1 heaping handful of fresh dill or 1 Tbs dried

  • Add a few fresh chopped chives, tasting as you go until you reach desired strength

*Egg-Free* Cashew Nutritional Yeast Dump Ranch:

*My current favorite flavor combo, although next time I may try it with an egg added as the consistency was almost like a Ceasar dressing, and I prefer creamier and have no egg allergies!

  • OMIT 1 Egg and instead use 1/3 cup of Raw Cashews

  • Add 1/3 C of Nutritional Yeast (a savory seasoning that is used as a cheese alternative- I legit put this stuff on everything; you can find it at Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Publix (Bobs Red Mill), and its packed with vitamins and minerals!)


I will do an entire post specifically on Nutritional Yeast in the coming weeks! I get questions about it ALL of the time so I am excited to share more about my favorite seasoning addiction!

As you see in photos above - I used smaller mason jars because when I was experimenting with flavor combinations I cut the recipe in half. I love dump ranch but there would've been no way to consume 4 full batches in a week! You will need a larger container when using the full recipes above! I would love to know if any of you try to make your own dump ranch or play around with any new combinations... Also, I found the nutritional facts online in case you are interested! :)
