Hi.

We got our dog a puppy...

So, I think based on my previous dog post it's safe to say I REALLY love my pup, Rogue. I love him so much, that for his early birthday present this year, my husband Matt and I got him a puppy. Yes, a puppy. He already has the happiest demeanor but he really comes alive when he gets to be around other dogs. Whenever we travel my in-laws usually take him and thankfully they live out in the country so Rogue spends his time roaming free with their dog and the many "neighborhood" dogs that come by for their daily visits. When he comes home from his grandpawrents he is exhausted, filthy and on a high. And then, reality sets in and I swear, for the next 4-5 days he turns into a straight Eeyore- moping his way around the house like he's in a legit depression. It breaks our hearts and we know it's got to be because he misses having that canine companionship. (That, or he just really loves his grandpawrents!)

Thus began my subtle hint dropping here and there to Matt about how badly Rogue "needs a friend". It took lots and lots of those little hint drops and even Matt began to see the trend of the downward mood swing following doggie play-dates or weekends at the g-parents. He finally agreed to start "looking" into it. "Looking into it" turned into me finding a puppy within one week of my search that would be ready for pick up the FOLLOWING weekend. It took a little convincing but I have the most loving, trusting Husband on Earth- not to mention the fact he was sold as soon as I showed him the picture of the little girl that I'd already fallen in love with. I was doing some serious damage in the pet department at TJ Maxx the very next day and before I knew it we were on our way to Albemarle, NC to pick up our little girl.

Remi

The picture message that started it all...

Rogue, our 2 year-old pup is an F1B Mini Goldendoodle (75% Poodle, 25% Golden Retriever= ZERO shedding). We got him under the pretense that he would be around 25-30 lbs full grown. Little did I know, my husband chose him because he had the "best eyes" and the "biggest paws" and wouldn't you know it, he is now a solid 45 lbs. I've reached out to other families who have pups from the same litter and their dogs all range from 21-28 lbs... Clearly, we ended up with the freakin' HULK of the litter. {See Photos of Rogue as a puppy below} Remi, as we named our new little girl is an F1 Medium Standard Goldendoodle (50% Poodle, 50% Golden Retriever= fingers crossed very little shedding). Per the breeder, she should be between 45-55 lbs. but at this point I am just praying we ended up with the runt! Matt and I both have allergies with pet dander but love Golden Retrievers so we chose this breed due to them being very hypoallergenic and we love their personalities.

Now we knew in our hearts that Rogue was going to LOVE having another dog in the house. He stays inside all day and although we work across the street and let him out often- he is mostly alone throughout the weekdays. We also know his playfulness and friendliness around all other dogs. We could literally walk past a dog that is snarling, teeth bared at Rogue and regardless he is ready to bounce right over and introduce himself. This dog has no qualms when it comes to making fur-friends. He even frequently tries to befriend our neighbors cats while they sit in their driveway hissing and death staring him down. {see photos of Rogue growing up below}

So... we figured, no problem! Rogue will LOVE the puppy! What we didn't consider was the level of "only-child-spoiled" he had become. When we walked in with Remi, to our disappointment Rogue was less than impressed to meet his new baby sister. Someone was not ready to share his pawrents. He wasn't mean or snippy with her, but two things were blatantly clear: 1) He did NOT want her to touch him and 2) He did NOT want her to touch us. He turned into a stage-5 clinger in a matter of seconds and stayed that way until around Monday when he really started warming up to her. It was touch and go there for a minute and I got a few of those "what in the hell did we get ourselves into" looks from Matt but you'll be glad to hear that as I type I look down and see Remi curled against Rogue and Rogue curling back around her. I know in my heart we did the right thing, and I trust that soon enough Rogue will agree. I hope you guys enjoy this little video compilation I made from the first 48-hours of Rogue & Remi hanging out :)
